Support your local historical society.
The Portage County Historical Society receives no government support and no one associated with the Portage County Historical Society receives a salary. Everything we have is through private donations and everyone here is a volunteer. If you want to volunteer, please see our volunteer page. If you want to donate, visit paypal.me/PCHSOhio

Back in 1951, a man named John Lowrie donated land to found the Portage County Historical Society, with the hope that his gift would inspire others to keep and hold dear the stories, records, and antiquities of our county history, preserving it as a gift to future generations.
A devoted team of volunteers worked to build the Historical Society, and in 1962 Charlotte Strickland made it possible to add the Carter and Strickland Houses, giving future generations the ability to experience the life of yesteryear.
Today, we are proud to keep history alive in so many ways – monthly programs, preserving archives of records, and caring for the buildings and property that make the Historical Society a place that draws hundreds of visitors each year.
All these good things are done with a 100% caring, volunteer staff.
Now in 2020, duty calls again to continue the work started a generation ago. We desperately need to repair and preserve the historical houses and Clock Tower. We need to maintain the grounds in a safe manner. We need to improve programming and refresh our Education fund.
Please take this opportunity to make the Portage County Historical Society part of your legacy.
